David Thoroughman

In 2020, you will elect a new Sheriff of Scioto County.  I wanted to introduce myself and tell a little of why I am seeking this very important office.  I have been married for over 25 years to my wife, Tanya, and we have three wonderful children, Olivia, Simon and Carly.  We attend Rubyville Community Church.  I am a lifelong resident of Scioto County, minus my time in the United States Air Force and my 1st and 2nd grades when we live in Manchester.

The future safety and security of our community, children, and businesses is my one concern. It is vitally important to have a Sheriff with vision, a willingness to get involved, to aggressively go after the criminal element and who possess an understanding of the changing needs of our community.

For these reasons I have declared myself a republican candidate for Sheriff of Scioto County.  During my 31+ year career I have worked with outstanding men and women at the Portsmouth Police Department as well as the Shawnee State University Department of Public Safety, leading both agencies as the Chief of Police. 

​

During my law enforcement career, I have been trained as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and certified as a volunteer firefighter.  This experience as well as the three decades in law enforcement, responding to thousands of crimes give me the unique skills that I feel are necessary for the position of Sheriff.  I can view each incident from the viewpoint of law enforcement, as an EMT, as well as a firefighter.  My education and my experience of being a victim of crime, on multiple occasions give me the necessary skills to view each incident from the viewpoint of a victim and to seek ways to improve community relations while reducing crime.  I am the only candidate with this extensive experience as well as the education to be your Sheriff.  Also, I am the only candidate to have honorably served in the United States military.

I want to be the Sheriff of the people of Scioto County, to aggressively go after the criminal element and do all that we can for our community.  The citizens deserve to have the sheriff’s office led in a professional, proactive, and service-minded manner.  I have a great passion for law enforcement – to be able to help those that cannot protect themselves and to go after those who prey upon the weak and helpless.

I will enhance school safety, build trust and community partnerships with the people whom we serve, leverage new and improving technologies, making it easier for our residents to engage with their Sheriff’s Office. I will work to forge a strong partnership with Our community that we serve.    Electing a Sheriff with the experience, leadership and commitment is an investment in the safety and security of our families, businesses and community.  I pledge if elected Sheriff, I will lead by example and make our community a Safer - Stronger Community for you and your family.
