Why I am running for Sheriff

                                                                                      Safer, Stronger Communities

The decision to run for Sheriff was not easily made. I have a great job and work for and with wonderful people! The retirement and other benefits are great and to take the position of Sheriff would mean that I would lose these. However, worldly things are not what matters in life.

I was humbled by having so many people throughout the community approach me and ask me to run. The recurring theme was that we need safer communities for our families. As I stated earlier, I am humbled by their request to run and that they see in me the experience, leadership, and commitment necessary to make our community safer for our families. I truly love serving my country and community and have done so for most of my life in the U.S. Air Force and as a police officer.

My wife and I have had many, many discussions on the topic of me running for Sheriff. And, I have prayed many times asking for God’s guidance because I always want to do His will and not mine. During one of these prayers I was driving down the road asking for a sign, one that I could not misinterpret for my will. I looked up into the sky, praying “please Lord, show me” and I saw the “T” in the air which is the picture that I have attached. I’m not a smart man (lol) but even I thought that this sign was pretty clear.

Together we can build a SAFER, STRONGER community for our families!

GOALS & PRIORITIES

I would like to share with everyone my goals and priorities if I am blessed to become your sheriff.

Enforcement for Criminal and Illegal Drug Activity

  • Proactive, competent law enforcement response to Crime

            *    We need to be proactive to stop crime before it occurs

I will ensure that the officers have the equipment and tools they need to safely their jobs effectively and efficiently

  • Re-establish the local drug task force to focus on Scioto County’s needs

  • Enhance our partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies for crime prevention and intervention efforts

Increase Efficiency, Effectiveness and Professionalism of the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office

  • Establish a county wide 9-1-1 center

           *    Currently there are 3 dispatch centers within the county, not counting the State Highway Patrol.

One county wide center will be more efficient, while saving tax dollars

  • Provide for more available road deputies to enhance the safety of our county while reducing the time that it takes to respond to your emergencies

           *    The county demographics have changed over the decades with more businesses and residents, while no change in the amount of “road deputies”.

  • Establish random follow-ups to calls-for-service, thus ensuring that the Sheriff’s Office is meeting the needs of the citizens that we serve

  • Leverage new and improving technologies, making it easier for residents to engage with our Sheriff’s Office and allowing deputies to be more efficient with their time

  • Improve the Scioto County Jail’s efficiency while ensuring the correctional officers have the tools and equipment to do their jobs

The Enhancement of School Safety and Partnerships with the Community

  • Enhance our School Resource Officer Program

           *    Work with school districts to ensure that we have school resource officers in all districts

  • Enhanced training for first responders, school officials, and the community

  • Partner with our schools to address drug and alcohol abuse, as well as bullying

           *    It is 2019 and we are still losing so many of our children to drugs, alcohol, and suicide. This should not be happening, and we need to       do more.

Establishment of Law Enforcement Roundtable - Community Partnerships

  • Establish public discussions in each township

  • Build trust and community partnerships with the people whom we serve

  • Together we can build a SAFER, STRONGER community for our families!

           *    Enhance the understanding and response of the Sheriff’s Office to community needs
